
During pregnancy, one of the most common symptoms that most of us face is Morning sickness, which refers to nausea and vomiting experienced in the early stages of pregnancy. Though most women are able to handle it, in case of some new mothers to be, it is a difficult symptom that only seems to get worse.
Morning sickness is a common symptom during the initial stage of pregnancy that is the first three months of pregnancy. Nearly 70 percent of pregnant women feel nauseated during morning and night for the first three months. Morning sickness starts to show after the fourth week of pregnancy. In most cases, it tends to get over at the end of three months but in some cases the nausea may continue throughout pregnancy.
In spite of the fact that the name says 'morning sickness', the nausea can continue throughout the day and not restrict itself to the morning. The moment you get up, you may find nausea overcoming you and this might continue till the end of the day.
It is basically caused due to hormonal changes or lower blood sugar levels in the initial stages of pregnancy. At this stage, the body is going through a lot of changes that result in uneasiness in women. Morning sickness is a part of this discomfort.
During pregnancy, vomiting is caused by increase in the level of HCG (Human Chronic Gonadotropin). Serotonin is also responsible for inducing vomiting. Another hormone called Estrogen is also known to cause nausea or queasiness during pregnancy. There are cases when dehydration may be caused due to excessive vomiting. In such cases immediate medical attention is needed.
It generally tends to disappear when the level of these hormones start falling. This happens during the second trimester.
Tips To Deal With Morning Sickness During Pregnancy
Below are some useful tips to deal with this type of sickness:
o When you get up in the morning, sit back and relax for a few moments in bed. o Start your day with a light snack to help soothe your empty stomach. o Ensure that you are eating small meals at regular intervals to avoid indigestion. Stuffing your stomach with food will only add to the queasiness. o Chew your food properly and eat slowly. o Avoid fried and spicy food. o Give your body adequate rest whenever you feel tired. Take a short nap during the day. o Ensure that you eat a balanced diet and healthy food to give your body the essential nutrients. Carbohydrates like white rice or potatoes are recommended.
Following these simple tips will help you overcome morning sickness.
