Hair Loss and Mating
Cindy Lee

Roberta reported a long, intense, and passionate relationship with her hair. She seemed to know (instinctively) the significant role that it play in finding a partner. As you grow up and become interested in finding a relationship, then you realize that your appearance is part of that attraction. Men can be bald and sexy, but hair is an accepted part of a female's appearance. It's part of a female's allure. I mean, hair is part of one's attempt to find a mate. A woman's head of hair is not so different (if at all) from a man's head of hair. Why then does it receive so much more attention in the area of mating? Carter thinks that it has something to do with a woman's body being almost void of visible hair on her face and body, such that, "by contrast, her remaining largest area of hair has gained in desirability. Women who have lost their hair seem to know that they are missing this sexual sign. It is an interesting and important observation that in the modern world of humans, hair continues to play a major role in mate selection (and inter-male rivalry). Jack said that "as long as physical attributes are as dominant as they are in the world, and in picking partners, (scalp hair) is going to be a wedge point between those who have and those who haven't. Bart agreed. "Baldness equals some sort of inadequacy, or less desirability, or something like that." Dan said that he thought there was an "instinctive competition to mate," and having hair was "something to give somebody a more competitive edge over somebody else.
