Dr. Kris Reddy warns that there is misleading marketing information being dispersed regarding the use of anesthesia. There are numerous medspas that are providing cosmetic procedures. However, each facility is licensed based on the level of anesthesia that they can provide. This leads to facilities a lower level of anesthesia than is required in order to perform a given procedure thoroughly, safely, and comfortably. At the same time, you do not want to have a deeper anesthetic than is necessary. No one facility has the secret to plastic surgery excellence. Sound medicine and common sense should be the guide.
The lowest level of anesthesia is local anesthesia (aka topical or injectable anesthesia). Local anesthesia is most often used in simple procedures such as fillers or nonablative lasers. It is inappropriate for breast augmentation or liposuction as the patient will feel too much pain and (if used for long procedures) may lead to toxicity issues.
Local anesthesia with IV sedation is appropriate for shorter surgical procedures such as blepharoplaty, minimal rhinoplasty, or minimal liposuction. It may not be appropriate for longer surgeries, or sensitive areas such as breasts.
Regional anesthesia is used for large areas like arms and legs, and during child birth.
General anesthesia is used for larger procedures involving the face, breast, or body.
In order to ensure that you are using the appropriate level of anesthesia for your procedure, you should meet with at least 3 properly licensed physicians. Each physician should carefully listen to your needs and recommend the level of anesthesia that is appropriate for your surgery. If one facility is advising either a more shallow or deeper anesthetic than the others, you should carefully understand why with either the physician and (if appropriate) the MD Anesthesiologist.
During the first free and private consultation, Dr. Kris Reddy will patiently listens as the patient explains his or her goals, and expresses his or her concerns. With this understanding, Dr. Kris Reddy's goal is to understand the patient's needs and lifestyle. Then, he can suggest and educate his patients regarding the appropriate procedure and the plastic surgery process.
Dr. Kris Reddy believes that natural looking results should be based on sound medicine. Dr. Kris Reddy's common sense approach continually earns Dr. Kris Reddy excellent patient reviews and great patient ratings.
